Cala Liberotto

Cala Liberotto is one of the most beautiful seaside resorts on Sardinia’s east coast and a real hidden gem. Even the journey there is an experience in itself. As you drive south along the coastal road from Capo Comino, the mountainous landscape rises impressively before you. The road is lined with oleanders and winds through an unspoilt, fragrant macchia landscape, which lies to the left of the road and is a protected nature reserve.

The mountainous area around Cala Liberotto is sparsely populated. On this stretch of coastline, a rocky high plateau drops sharply into the sea, creating a fascinatingly beautiful landscape: fine sandy beaches, often just a stone’s throw wide, framed by rugged cliffs and pine-covered peninsulas; the hinterland is wooded. The individual sections of beach are linked by paths that wind their way through the rocky terrain.

All this makes Cala Liberotto and the surrounding area an ideal holiday destination for families with children, keen walkers and nature lovers. The holiday homes are situated in a setting that is more idyllic than almost anywhere else on the island. Everyday essentials can be bought all year round in the small village of Sos Alinos, right next to Cala Liberotto. A visit to nearby Orosei, with its historic centre well worth seeing, is also highly recommended.

Quick Facts

Location: East coast, approx. 40 km south of Olbia. The journey from the Olbia ferry terminal or airport takes about 60 minutes. A car is not essential for all properties.

SARDAFIT-Properties numbered 500–599 are part of Cala Liberotto. Beach: Small sandy and rocky beaches alternate, with a pine forest extending right down to the sea.

SARDAFIT-Properties numbered 600–699 belong to Orosei, Osalla and Irgoli. Beach: Approx. 5 km of sandy beach. At the southern end, the bay gives way to spectacularly beautiful cliffs.

Doctor/pharmacy: ‘Guarda Medica’ (= state health service) and doctors in Orosei; specialists 5 minutes’ drive away; hospital in Nuoro, approx. 30 minutes away. (The service office provides assistance in emergencies!)
Car hire: In Orosei.
Bank: In Orosei, with an ATM available.
Shopping: A good range of shops across all sectors in nearby Sos Alinos (3 km) and the town of Orosei (population 8,000, 6 km). For everyday needs, there is a small selection of groceries; fresh fish is available on Orosei beach, including eels and freshwater fish.
Internet: From June 2017, internet access is regulated uniformly across the EU. The connection locally and in the surrounding area is good, depending on the location. The Centro Servizi Tartaruga lends out routers, and Sardafit guests can also log in for free at various restaurants.
Nightlife: In Orosei, there is a programme catering mainly to locals for all age groups, available all year round. In Cala Liberotto, the Hotel Tirreno offers a German-language entertainment programme including a disco, officially for hotel guests only.

Restaurants: A wide range of options available all year round, from ‘simple’ to ‘gourmet’, in Cala Liberotto and the surrounding area.
Sport: Boat hire, bike hire, fishing, horse riding, sailing, surfing, diving and tennis in Orosei. Golf in Punt’Aldia, 3 km north of S. Teodoro. (All subject to the season!)
Language course: A small, dynamic language school opened in Posada in 2003, which also offers short courses.
Telecommunications: Mobile phone reception is available almost everywhere. Payphones can be found in street cafés. In addition, fax and telephone services are provided by our German-speaking service office.
Hiking: The local “Pro Loco” in Orosei (the municipality’s tourist information office) offers a wide range of exploration tours across the whole island. Sardafit’s service office organises tours exclusively for its guests into the unspoilt mountainous hinterland, the highlight of which is a feast with Sardinian shepherds in the most beautiful countryside, boat trips to the offshore islands, a traditional Sardinian wedding feast at a farmhouse in the countryside, and much more. For hikes into the mountainous hinterland around Sardinia’s highest peaks (1,800 m), a map is advisable as there are no signposts away from the roads. Highly recommended: beach walks!
