Surfing and kitesurfing in Sardinia – fun and action all year round!
Sardinia is one of the windiest regions in Italy and, with 2,000 kilometres of coastline, is a true paradise for kite surfers and surfers.

On the east coast, the endless beach of La Caletta near Posada and Capo Comino is ideal for kitesurfing. Here, there is a steady wind 312 days a year. With a large flat water zone, this is also the ideal spot for beginners. There is also an established and popular kitesurfing school here.
The beach at Berchida is a little more secluded and is described by many as one of the most beautiful in Sardinia. It is located slightly south of Capo Comino. The white sand and turquoise-green water are not only a kitesurfer's dream come true. The beach at La Cinta near San Teodoro, a little further north, has a slightly larger shallow water area.
A special spot in the south is the eight-kilometre-long Poetto beach in the Gulf of Cagliari, where the Kite World Championships were even held in 2012. Consistent mistral and scirocco winds and plenty of space make kite surfers' hearts beat faster.
The beaches of Santa Margherita, Su Giudeu, Campana and Chia also offer everything a kitesurfer needs: crystal-clear water, snow-white sand and, of course, wind, wind, wind: Grecale (north-east), Levante (east), Scirocco (south-east), Libeccio (south-west) and Mistral are the beautiful names of the winds that constantly blow around your ears and into your kite here.
The north of the island also benefits from favourable winds. The strait between Sardinia and Corsica further intensifies the mistral. Porto Pollo in particular is a popular spot for kite surfers who like it a little wilder. The spot consists of two large bays, separated by a narrow headland with an offshore peninsula. Few waves and rapidly deepening water are also ideal conditions for foil kiters. A little further west in Rena Majore and Marina delle Rose, fans of stronger surf will also get their money's worth. Valledoria offers flat water kiters the special feature of a large lagoon that can be reached directly from the sea.
The best season for kiting is the off-season, i.e. April-May or October and November. During these times, there are fewer bathers and restrictions for kiters on some beaches are lifted. All the major spots and beaches also have kite schools and equipment suppliers that leave nothing to be desired.
