Porto Corallo

Porto Corallo is a peaceful coastal village on the south-east coast of Sardinia, part of the municipality of Villaputzu. It is characterised by its extensive, unspoilt stretch of coastline: Just off the village itself lies a long, wide beach of sand and fine gravel, fringed by dunes and Mediterranean scrub, which merges seamlessly into further coves – ideal for long walks, swimming breaks and snorkelling stops. The water is clear and generally slopes gently, making the beach well-suited for children too. During the season, there are sections offering services such as sun lounger and parasol hire, a beach bar and, occasionally, designated dog-friendly areas.

The residential area of Porto Corallo feels like a small holiday village: predominantly low-rise development comprising holiday homes, flats and residences, which are loosely arranged – and in some cases terraced – on the slopes above the sea. In between, there is plenty of greenery, pine trees and scrub, along with short, traffic-calmed side streets – all designed to promote tranquillity and sea views. Down by the water, a small marina and the beach area provide a Mediterranean atmosphere. During the high season, there are a few restaurants and bars, a small shop and services such as boat, SUP and pedal boat hire; outside the peak season, it remains very tranquil.

Those looking for a bit more variety will find Muravera, the nearest large town, just a short drive away. There, you’ll find weekly markets, cafés and ice-cream parlours, spring festivals and shopping opportunities. Ideal destinations for day trips include the long, unspoilt beaches of Colostrai, San Giovanni and Feraxi, as well as the lagoons and estuaries teeming with birdlife, and the coastal landscape around Capo Ferrato. Active holidaymakers will find ideal conditions in and around Porto Corallo for swimming, snorkelling, paddling and – when the winds are right – windsurfing; further inland, there are easy walks and cycle rides through a peaceful, Mediterranean landscape.

All this makes Porto Corallo particularly attractive for families, couples and nature lovers who appreciate relaxation, the sea and plenty of space, as well as for independent travellers wishing to discover the lesser-known corners of Sardinia’s east coast.
