Li Cossi – Dream beach in Sardinia
Sardinia's beaches: Today, ‘Li Cossi’
Sardinia scores again and again with its absolutely dreamlike beaches. They are scattered all over the island. Li Cossi is also worth mentioning here.
The beautiful bay with emerald green and crystal clear water is surrounded by pink rocks and green macchia vegetation. Li Cossi is one of Sardinia's most beautiful beaches and is located on the Costa Paradiso. It is uniquely beautiful and impressive. It reminded me of Lago di Curcurica in Cala Liberotto, which is located in ‘our kingdom’. Here, however, it is not a stream that is responsible for its uniqueness, but a river that forms a magnificent freshwater lake directly behind the beach. (I recommend that our guests in Cala Liberotto spend a day at the beach there and swim alternately in fresh and salt water.)
What makes Li Cossi a special place, apart from its enchanting play of colours, is the stream mentioned above. It also forms a lagoon lake – naturally much smaller – at the back of the bay. The beach owes its name to this stream.
Surrounded by an extremely impressive amphitheatre of rocks, Li Cossi becomes a wind-protected bay. The rugged granite cliffs are covered with dark green scrub. The golden sandy beach and the intense colour of the sea provide the ideal contrast and make the play of colours perfect.
Unfortunately, it is very crowded in the high season due to its popularity and beauty. It is highly recommended in the low season. Also ideal for divers, snorkellers and families with small children. The gently sloping beach is ideal for swimming and for children to play. Additional amenities include a large car park, cafés and restaurants. You can also hire parasols, sun loungers, pedal boats and boats here.
The beach can be reached via the provincial road 200 by following the road to Costa Paradiso and arriving at the car park after 32 kilometres. The beach can be reached in about 10 minutes on foot along a path that is about half a kilometre long. The path runs parallel to the sea.
A footpath of about 400 metres leads down to the small harbour of Li Cossi. It winds its way through the rock formations and ends in a striking rock staircase. Along the coast, the small bays of Porto Leccio are waiting to be discovered. Others enjoy the seclusion of Spiaggia di Li Tinnari.
Yes, Li Cossi is definitely worth a visit. I am describing it here to add another to the list of unique Sardinian beaches. However, I believe that ‘our’ Lago di Curcurica wins the direct comparison by a long way. It is part of a nature reserve and is never overcrowded at any time of the year.
I hope the reader will forgive me for allowing a little local patriotism to influence my writing.
With a Sardinian ‘Adiosu’, I bid you farewell for today.
