The 3 best reasons for holidaying in Sardinia with children
We believe that Sardinia is the perfect choice for family holidays with children. The Sardinians are renowned for being child-friendly – children are welcome everywhere here. Sardinia's fine sandy beaches with their shallow, bathtub-warm water are also suitable for the little ones.

Older children will enjoy discovering the underwater world with snorkelling equipment. Even away from the beaches, explorers of all ages will find something to enjoy: lively towns, quaint villages, mysterious caves, unspoilt countryside and prehistoric buildings are just some of the attractions that ensure a holiday with children in Sardinia is an exciting experience for young and old alike. When it comes to food, there's nothing to complain about: pizza, an amazing variety of pasta (both available gluten-free almost everywhere!) and, of course, delicious gelato in all colours and flavours make Sardinia a real paradise for children.
Travelling to Sardinia is a breeze for families
Anyone who has ever taken a long-haul flight with a baby or toddler will appreciate the fact that Sardinia is really only a stone's throw away from the UK by plane – you can get there in about two hours. In Sardinia, families with children will find everything they would otherwise have to travel much further to find: sunshine, white, fine sandy beaches and warm, turquoise blue sea water. It is not without reason that Sardinia is nicknamed the ‘Caribbean of Europe’. So why wander far afield? Paradise is practically on your doorstep, and a holiday in Sardinia is certainly more sustainable than a holiday outside Europe. Children will also find it exciting to travel in their own car on one of the large car ferries that sail to Sardinia from various ports on the Italian mainland. The crossing from Genoa to Olbia, for example, takes 10 hours, some of which can be spent sleeping in your own cabin. The rest of the time can be spent exploring the ship. From Livorno, you can reach Olbia in just 6 hours. During the day, children can let off steam in the pool or in the children's room, or you can choose one of the night crossings. This type of travel is even more sustainable than travelling by plane and offers the advantage that you don't need to hire a car, which is essential on the island.

The beaches in Sardinia are a paradise for children
Sardinia's beaches are world-famous, and rightly so. The east coast of the island has some particularly beautiful beaches that are ideal for family holidays with children. Here, the coastline is characterised by long, flat sandy beaches and is not as wild and rugged as the west coast. If you are looking for peace and quiet and unspoilt nature on your family holiday, this is the place for you. We particularly like the famous, very family-friendly La Cinta beach near San Teodoro, whose shallow waters are ideal for small children. Families with children will appreciate the convenient parking directly on the beach. There are toilet facilities at the beach entrance, a café and a restaurant, and sun loungers and parasols are available for hire. If your little explorers are a bit older and want to explore Sardinia's fascinating underwater world with snorkels and diving goggles, Cala Ginepro beach near Orosei is the perfect base for your holiday. These are just two examples, as the choice of beautiful beaches and bays for holidays in Sardinia with children is endless.
There is so much for families with children to discover in Sardinia
The beaches in Sardinia are so beautiful that it can be tempting to spend the entire holiday there with your children. That would be a shame, because Sardinia has so much more to offer holidaymakers of all ages: interesting caves await little explorers on the coast, such as the Neptune's Grotto (Grotta di Nettuno) near Alghero. A discovery tour through the quaint villages is also exciting. A trip to the former bandit village of Orgosolo with its colourful murals is particularly exciting. Children will also find the nuraghi, mysterious tower structures from prehistoric times, which can be found all over the island, interesting. The ancient Greeks believed that these structures were built by giants, and even today the nuraghi are surrounded by a fairy-tale aura. But there is also plenty to discover on a smaller scale. For example, many holiday resorts have markets selling local products and handicrafts, which are wonderful to stroll through in the evening after a lovely day at the beach. These often also feature carousels and trampolines, which are very popular with children. One thing is certain – there's no chance of boredom on a holiday in Sardinia with children!
